In this more mature version of Freaky Friday, two best friends from long ago pee in the same fountain when reunited. But it’s not just any old fountain. It’s a wishing fountain and they both make a wish that they had the other’s lives. Of course, it comes true and Dave (Jason Bateman) and Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) switch bodies. For Mitch, it’s a terrible deal. He has always been the irresponsible care free type who is only partially employed and loving his single life. And now he’s saddled with Bateman’s wife and three kids. For Dave, on the other hand, he gets to forego all of his responsibilities and try to enjoy life as a single man. The only problem is he hasn’t been single in a long time and the world outside is not what he remembered from his younger days. And so they both find out that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fountain. They must then find a way to switch back and restore everything to normal before it’s too late. Review:
In this classic western meets War of the Worlds, Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) wakes near an Arizona town in the late 19th century with a futuristic gadget around his wrist and no idea who he is or how he got there. His identity doesn’t escape him for long. His appearance in town reminds him that he is a wanted criminal, one that is on the run. And he’s already being hunted by Colonel Dolarhyde who is glad to find his bounty. But before the arrest can be made, an alien ship comes to destroy the town. The device on Lonergan’s arm is a weapon that they discover can stop these creatures, which soon flock to the area. Dolarhyde isn’t happy about it, not that you can tell, but works with his captive to save the Earth from the invasion, along with a few of the town’s folk. This includes Doc the Bartender (Sam Rockwell) who winds up being the superhero sidekick and comic relief, Ella (Olivia Wilde) who is the lovely companion, a preacher (Clancy Brown) and a lad (Noah Ringer). Review:
Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks) is a Navy veteran who winds up being employee of the month at a large retail outlet after his military stint, where he works with those much younger than himself. But when he’s laid off due to downsizing, he decides to take a friend’s advice and go back to earn the college degree he never got. But his time in retail makes him sort of the cool guy that is still young at heart even if he’s older in appearance. And that gets the attention of a fellow student (Roxana Ortega) who invites him to join her scooter gang, much to the chagrin of her boyfriend (Wilmer Valderrama). But Larry has other plans when he develops an interest in a disillusioned professor (Julia Roberts) that teaches a speech course. Read more…

In the live action/computer generated film from Universal, Hop tells the tale of the Easter Bunny (Russell Brand) who has retired and left his legacy to his son, but the son doesn’t want it. Instead he wants to be a drummer and goes to Hollywood to get a gig. On the way, he’s “hit” by a car and fakes injury, so the man (James Marsters) takes him home with him. Of course, he’s not the best roommate and gets into all sorts of trouble, leaving the unemployed guy to clean up his messes. Meanwhile, since there is a vacuum of power on Easter Island, a chick decides he will be new symbol of Easter, creating an army to fight against the return of the Easter Bunny who must decide if he wants to take up his legacy or not.
